Forget Not – Bro. Tim Hicks

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Psalms 103:1-4 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Many times its seems that the people with the least, are most grateful.

At This point in David’s life, he has already gone through his darkest trials. And yet he starts the psalm stating “Bless the Lord!”

He Pardons – V. 3 – “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities…”

  1. Christ doesn’t just forgive our mistakes, but our iniquities= perversity, evil.

  2. Christ is our Advocate (go between) to the Father. He makes salvation and communication possible through His finished work on the cross.

  3. Example of a man who is on death row, and has now found out he has a deadly disease. The governor extends mercy to the man by pardoning all of his crime, but he is still left with the deadly disease.

He Procures – “Who redeemth thy life…”

  1. Example of a man who goes into a pawn shop with a valuable ring. He makes a deal with the merchant to pawn his ring knowing he will never get the full return on the value of that ring. This is just like how sin robs man from the full value God has placed on him. But, Christ goes into the pawnshop of life and buys back our lives, and restores eternal value to our soul.

  2. Christ redeems our lives from going to waste!

He Provides – “Who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies”

He Profits – “Who satisfied thy mouth with good things so that thy youth is renewed like the eagles.”

  1. Isn’t it interesting how the devil never has old happy people?

Conclusion: Through all David had been through in his lifetime, he still could say, “Bless the Lord!” I guess you could say he was God’s old happy man!
