Light In A Dark World (Part 2)

...CONTINUED FROM Light In A Dark World

The Light of Calvary

The Gospel is our greatest Hope! It is the light that reveals to man his sin and his need of a Savior.

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” (Ephesians 1:7)

Because Jesus endured Calvary, we have access to our Heavenly Father and redemption from the penalty of sin. The cross was not the end, but the beginning of every good thing God has planned for His children. “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:15).”

What great privilege we have to know the Lord Jesus and to be given the light of the Gospel!

The Light of His Countenance

You may have heard the expression, “That person really lights up a room!” What do they mean when they say that? That person’s energy and disposition contributes to a happy atmosphere and adds a smile to everyone’s face. This is what the presence of the Lord does in our lives! When we acknowledge that He is near, His presence lifts our eyes to Heaven and our praise to the throne.

“For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.” (Psalms 44:3)

Amazing things happen when you live in constant recognition of God’s presence. In your home, at work, at school—everything seems brighter when the Son is free to shine.

How are you biding in His presence today? Is the array of His countenance shining through you today and into this dark world?

The Light of His Church

Matthew 5:14-16 says, “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Another light that has given this world is YOU! If you are His child, Jesus says you are the light of the world. I think we often like to talk more about the prevailing darkness in our world then the responsibility of being salt and light! What a great task the Lord has gifted us with to be beacons for His Word and stewards of His will.

Paul reminds us that at one time we were in darkness:

“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light:” (Ephesians 5:8)

1 Thessalonians 5:5 says, “Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.”

I wonder how often God wanted me to be light to someone in darkness and because of my pride, I hid under “a bushel?” I didn’t want to be ridiculed or rejected, so I settled for some lame excuse. Lord help us to be lights in a world that is desperate for hope!

The Light of His Coming

I am so thankful that I get to commune with Jesus every day! I talk to Him and He talks to me. But I am certainly looking forward to the day when my faith becomes sight and I see His blessed gaze pierce through my eyes like a raging fire.

“Oh what a day that will be

When my Jesus I shall see

When I look upon His face

The one who saved me by His grace”

My friend, He is coming again. What a blessed revelation of hope that we have in His return!

“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14-18)

There is much more light in God then there will ever be in this world! Focus on that today. Focus no Him today!
