What Can I Do For My Country?

Happy Veterans Day! Thank you to every man and woman who has served our country. The sacrifices you have made have not gone unnoticed and I commend you for your bravery!

I am proud to be an American! The freedom's I enjoy today are not taken lightly, but it does beg the question...

What can I do for my country?

There is no doubt that our nation is in a sinful mess. Society wants nothing to do with God and His Word, and that’s just the way they like it. It seems the America of integrity and strength is dwindling down to a generation of entitlement and self-purpose. But no matter how far men run away from God, we should never resolve our responsibilities that we have as Christians to be salt and light. The future and hope of our nation will never be judged by society, but by the “righteous in the land.” Aka The Church. So what can we do for a nation that is falling in spiritual oblivion? Here are four things every Christian can do for their country.

1. Be Saved

The obvious first step to making an impact in your nation, is to know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. In the heart of every believer, lives the preserving and resurrection power of the Holy Spirit. This enables the work of God to be done in any home, community or nation.

2. Be Separate

The Bible teaches us as believers to be a “peculiar people” (I Peter 2:9), different from the rest of the world. First Corinthians 6: 14-17 challenges us that we should not be “yoked together with unbelievers.” Ephesians 5 teaches us that we should no more be affiliated with the "works of darkness." Our nations freedom's will be preserved through the men and women who seek to blaze a trail of integrity and influence for Jesus Christ!

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs 14:34).

3. Be Surrendered

Colossians 1:18 says, “…that in all things he might have the preeminence.” Christ should have first place in every area of our lives. Your marriage, job, school, activities should be in complete command of Jesus. We are His soldiers placed in this country for His purpose. II Timothy challenges us,

"Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier."

A good soldier of Jesus Christ will lift the banner of humility and courage high for the next generation. They will pray fervently for the protection of our liberties and stand in the way of justice. They will give their steps to God and will be found faithful in the face of persecution.

4. Be A Soul-Winner

"God didn’t just save you FROM something, He saved you FOR something!" It is not just the pastor’s and deacon’s job to be a soul-winner, it is the privilege of EVERY Believer to share the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ! Our nation will never get out of the mess that it's in, if God's people remain lethargic with the Gospel. We must shed the Gospel light that pierces the works of darkness and bring men to Jesus! It is the only hope for our future.
