4 Best Tools for Sharing the Gospel

As an evangelist, I LOVE sharing the Gospel with others! But I’ll be honest, it isn’t always easy. Sometimes you must sift through selfish ambitions and distracting goals to get back to one of the main callings of a disciple…to go and tell (Matthew 28:19-20/Acts 1:8). The problem is that going and telling means inconvenience and fear for many of us. We genuinely want to share our faith with others, but we just simply don’t know where to start or what tools to use to lead someone else to Jesus. Paul knew what it was like to bear the weight of the Gospel.
“For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more” (I Corinthians 9:16-19).
In order to lead other people to Christ, we must put away ourselves and put on the tools of the Gospel, sharp and ready for use!
Peter reminds us, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (I Peter 3:15).
So, what are the best tools for sharing Christ with others? Here are what I believe are the top tools found in Scripture when it comes to bringing the message of hope to the world:
The Gospel
You cannot expect to sell a product that you have never used or owned. When it comes to being an effective Gospel witness, you must first be “born again” (John 3:7). The Gospel must first live in you in order to live through you.
For the mature Christian who sees this as oversimplifying, my I challenge you to deepen your understanding of the Gospel which Christ has gifted you. Know what you believe and why you believe it based on the authority of God’s Word. Practice giving the Gospel message in under two minutes or even write out the Gospel story in a short concise article.
I engage with students all the time that don’t have any understanding of God, Jesus or the Bible so I often have to start all the way back in Genesis! With only a few minutes to express the Gospel message from Creation to the Cross, I must be concise, dependent on the Holy Spirit, and well fortified with Scripture. Writing it out or rehearsing to a friend will help you make the most of your time bringing others to Jesus.
The Word of God
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (II Timothy 3:16).
When it comes to being a Gospel Witness, the most powerful thing you can say to someone, are the words of God!
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
I love apologetics and learning different tactics to present the Gospel to skeptics, but as I preach Christ more and more, I am convinced that the Word of God can cut to the heart of the matter far greater than anything I can organize. This is why Scripture memorization is your best friend in Gospel work because you can take the power of God’s Word wherever you are and pour into the life of another.
I would encourage to mark in your Bible or memorize key Gospel verses to enrich your Gospel witnessing to skeptics or those who do not already have a fundamental understanding of the Bible. Scriptures like:
Romans 3:10 -“As it is written there is non righteous, no not one.”
Romans 3:23 - "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 - "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 5:12 - "Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men for all have sinned."
Romans 5:19 - "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous."
Romans 5:21 - "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 5:8 - "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlastin life."
John 3:17 - "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
Matthew 18:11 - "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost."
Ephesians 2:8-10 - "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yoursleves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
Romans 10:9 - "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thy heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:13 - "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Ephesians 1:12-13 - "That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise."
I John 5:12 - "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
I John 5:13 - "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
Let these passages serve as guide posts through your Gospel presentation and pray that His Word will not turn void in their hearts!
Holy Spirit
I believe one of the most neglected tools in the Gospel toolbelt is the Holy Spirit and yet when you study the book of the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost in the book of Acts, you’ll find a direct connection to power and boldness to proclaim the Gospel.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness” (Act 4:31).
The reality is that we cannot fulfill the Great Commission without the filling of the Holy Spirit! He is the One that guides us to the lost, gives us the boldness to proclaim the Gospel and moves in the heart of the soul to trust in the Jesus for eternal life!
Personal Testimony
When I preach on sharing your faith with others, I have many who will come up to me afterwards and express their fears of not knowing where to start the Gospel conversation with their friend or coworker. Sometimes they fill overwhelmed like they have to have the New Testament memorized before they can begin Gospel work. This is a lie of the devil! I am all for being well prepared in your Gospel witness especially when engaging skeptics (hence the reason for this article) but I believe the best way to start sharing your faith is to just start!
Begin by telling them what Jesus did in your life. Your story is personal and powerful and it may just be the validation that someone needs to know that God is real and that He loves them enough to give them eternal life! When some asks you “Hey! How are you?” Just respond,
“I’m wonderful! God has been so good to me! Can I tell you about it?”
The joy of the Lord is your strength and when you share Christ with a smile on your face and the Holy Spirit by your side, you will no doubt, impact the life you are trying to reach.
So, may I ask you? Is there a person in your life of whom God has already placed on your heart to be a Gospel witness? Well…they are you next assignment! Take these Bible tools and share the greatest story that has ever been told!
