"I Saw the Cross and Came Running!"

A few weeks ago, we closed the semester with our last Good Talk Outreach at UNC Chapel Hill. It was an AWESOME day of evangelism as we had many students drawn to the table with the question of the week, "Is Alcohol a Sin?" There are so many students that struggle with sinful habits on campus and this was a great opportunity to share Jesus with non-believers and encourage other Christians from God's Word to not live under the powerful grip of ANY substance.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a young lady frantically dash to our table in distress. With a quivering hand she jerked her headphones off and said,
"Can you pray for me? I'm really struggling with anxiety and demonic oppression! I'm a believer. I just need you to pray!"
Right away, the Holy Spirit gave me the calming wisdom to settle her nerves and speak truth to the lies she was contemplating. We prayed together and you could see the Comforter rest His hand of grace and full assurance on her identity and value. She concluded by saying,
"Thank you. This was of God. I was struggling and I saw the cross [on my t-shirt] and came running!"
The Holy Spirit reminded me later that this is what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. We lift the banner of the cross of Jesus high, so that those that look to it might be saved; saved from the penalty and power of sin!
"For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (I Corinthians 1:17-18).
