Remembering Charlie Kirk: 4 Ways Christians Must Respond

It was a heavy day for America: September 10, 2025. News of Charlie Kirk’s passing — a horrific assassination in Utah — left countless hearts aching. The shock, the grief, the righteous anger toward such a heinous act all collided into a single, overwhelming question: What would drive someone to do something so despicable?

The answer reaches far beyond politics. Yes, the media calls this a political assassination and, in many ways, they are right. But beneath the surface of this evil act lies a deeper reality that spiritual forces are at work. This was an effort by Satan himself to silence a voice boldly proclaiming Jesus Christ.

Charlie Kirk was not targeted merely because he led a conservative movement or mobilized thousands of young people across college campuses. He was targeted because he identified with Jesus — openly, unapologetically, courageously. Many stand for political ideas without standing for Christ. Charlie did both. And that is why the enemy hated him.

As many across the nation remember a man who stood for truth and the gospel, we must all prayerfully ask ourselves,

Lord, what can I do for Your cause? How can I stand for truth in this age of skepticism and lies? 

Here are four ways I believe Charlie Kirk championed the cause of Christ and how we can do the same:

1. Cherish Your Family

I remember my first instinct when I heard of the news of Charlie Kirk. I was at my desk typing out a letter that I would send to pastors about our new campus ministry, Good Talk Outreach. I pushed away from my desk and looked to heaven, wondering if I was doing the right thing or if I had been given God's stop sign. I didn’t know what the future held for me at the time, but I did get a small glimpse of how short life can be and how precious the gift of family is. I went to the next roomed and hugged and kissed my wife and kids, praising God for His goodness and for the privilege of leading my family.

Charlie Kirk was a family man through and through. He preached marriage, children, and that raising kids to know and love God was one of the best things in all the world. His message was clear — build strong families rooted in the truth of God.

If you have a spouse who loves you, children who look to you, or a home filled with God’s goodness, cherish it. Stand boldly for your family. Train up your children in the way they should go. Instill God’s truth and love in them. Let your home be a testimony of faithfulness in a world desperate for light.

2. Pray for America and Pray for Each Other

Paul told Timothy, “I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day.” Prayer is not passive; it is powerful. Today, we must pray for the Kirk family, for America, and for one another.

The preservation of this nation rests on the obedience of God’s people. Pray that God would raise up thousands — even tens of thousands — of bold believers who will stand unashamedly for Jesus Christ. Pray that courage would rise where fear threatens to settle. Pray that the gospel would advance even in the face of persecution.

Our ministry, Good Talk Outreach, is heading to a local college campus today to preach Jesus. I’ll be honest — fear still creeps in from time to time. But I cannot back down. We cannot back down. We must…

 Be bold with the truth. Go and preach the gospel. Continually pray for one another.

3. Preach the Gospel Boldly

Charlie Kirk preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. Whether you agreed with him politically or not, there is no doubt he championed the cause of Christ without apology. If we are going to honor his legacy and fulfill the Great Commission, we must do the same.

Paul charged Timothy, “Preach the word… in season and out of season” (II Timothy 4:2). No matter the cultural climate, no matter the risks, no matter the fear — preach Christ. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (II Timothy 1:7).

Do not be ashamed of the gospel. Do not shrink back. Let Charlie’s courage remind us that the Great Commission is still our calling, and obedience is still our responsibility.

“…Greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world” (I John 4:4)

4. Have Tough Conversations

Paul urged Timothy, “Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also” (II Timothy 2:1-2).

Standing for truth requires courage, grace, and perseverance. If we want to finish our course and keep the faith, we must be willing to have the tough conversations. We must be willing to stand for what is right, even when it costs us something — or everything.

Charlie Kirk did that. He stood boldly for Jesus, for truth, and for the gospel.

And now, it is our turn.

Rise up, Christian. Stand firm. Preach Jesus.

There is so much more that could be said about Charlie Kirk — his family, his leadership, Turning Point USA — but he would tell you himself: It’s all about Jesus.

So rise up. Do not live in fear. Preach boldly. Stand for truth. And continue proclaiming the good news of the gospel to the world around you.

That is how we honor Charlie Kirk’s legacy. More importantly, this is how we remain faithful to Christ.
